Porsche Finally Moving Ahead With Flat-Four Engine
When Porsche released the first Boxster in 1996 and the first Cayman in 2005, the idea was to create an entry-level model for the German automaker’s sports car range. The latest iterations of both closely related models, however, have begun to encroach dangerously on the 911′s territory, particularly in their newest GTS specifications. That could be about to change, however, with the introduction of a four-cylinder engine for the compact mid-engined coupe and roadster.
According to Automotive News, Porsche is finally preparing to launch a new boxer four engine in the Boxster and Cayman, following years of speculation. The engine would be based on the same architecture as the company’s famous flat six, but with two fewer cylinders to cut weight. Don’t expect it to cut much in the way of performance, however: Porsche chief Matthias Muller indicates that the new engine could produce as much as 395 horsepower – significantly more than even the 340-hp flat six in the Cayman GTS, suggesting that the engine could even find its way into the 911 as well.

LIT Motors C1: The Car-Like Motorcycle That Can’t Fall Down
The all-electric LIT Motors C1 electric motorcycle is an amazing feat of engineering. Using gyroscopes and electric motors to keep its balance, the C1 really can’t be knocked down–even when it’s being tugged by an SUV.
On top of all of that, the C1 promises up to 200 miles of all-electric range, seating for two, 0-60 mph acceleration in less than 6 seconds, and a mere 800-pound curb weight. It’s only 40″ wide, so, in theory at least, it can split lanes and filter through traffic, skipping right past jams–but without exposing you to the rain, wind, or other inclement weather.
So what has happened with the C1 since 2012? It’s still in development, with the first examples slated for delivery in the fourth quarter of 2014. According to the latest updates from the company, an all-new prototype is currently under construction,
Want to get in on the deal yourself? You can reserve one for as little as $250 for one of the first 10,000 C1s built–but you’ll have to get in line, as the first 370 are already reserved. You can get a spot among the first 2,000 deliveries for $500. The full price of the C1? About $24,000, according to LIT Motors.

New York Cab Driver Terrify Passengers With A Giant Snake
We’ve seen the movie Snakes on a Plane, but what about Snakes in a Cab? Comedian and former cab driver Jimmy Failla decided to make it a reality by enlisting a 10-foot albino python to help scare the bejeezus out of his passengers.
Failla, who has a new book coming out, rigged his yellow cab with cameras and hit the streets, picking up unsuspecting New Yorkers. He then proceeded to direct the non-poisonous snake through the dividing window and towards the helpless passengers. As you can imagine, even the most intrepid victims freaked out almost as much as that guy that was kidnapped by Jeff Gordon.
According to reports, Failla, who still holds a valid TLC taxi license, says that because he didn’t log the trips, he didn’t do anything wrong. And all passengers signed releases after the stunt was over. The New York Post reports the city’s Taxi and Limousine Commission calls Failla’s actions “monumentally poor judgement,” and will consider revoking his license.

Jay Leno Takes A Second Spin In The Porsche 918 Spyder
Following its world debut at the 2013 Frankfurt Auto Show late last year, Porsche’s new 918 Spyder is slowly making its way into buyer hands. Avid Porsche fan Jay Leno hasn’t confirmed if he’s bought one yet (he’s already bought a McLaren P1), but he did recently take a closer look at one and appears to have come away very impressed with it.
After a quick spin during the 918 Spyder’s local debut in Monterey, California last year, Leno got a second look at the car in his garage. On hand to explain all the details was Porsche North America spokesman Daniel Eastman.
Unlike its Ferrari LaFerrari and McLaren P1 rivals, both of which are sold out, the 918 Spyder is still available for sale and could be yours for $845,000. The Porsche has the added benefit that it has a removable roof, which makes it ideal for the upcoming summer months.
