Bugatti Launches Certified Used Car Program
Knowing your car’s history is important even if you’re only spending $5,000, so it’s positively vital when your wallet is being emptied to the tune of hundreds of grand or perhaps even a million dollars. At the Techno Classica 2014 classic car event in Germany this week, Bugatti has announced its own certified used car program to ensure its cars are looked-after no matter how many owners they’ve had.
Several other luxury marques–including McLaren and Rolls-Royce–offer similar programs, taking a holistic view of a luxury vehicle’s ownership experience. Buying a used Veyron still means buying into a very exclusive club, with just 450 units intended for production. And these are complicated, expensive vehicles, requiring constant attention from experienced engineers to deliver their best.
As part of its Bugatti Certified program, all used vehicles will first be extensively serviced. Engineers and mechanics work through a requirements catalog, carrying out precise servicing and preparation to Bugatti’s exacting standards. Any technical updates will also be carried out, and the car’s guarantee extended. Once the vehicle is perfect–or as perfect as a car without a line of zeros on the odometer can be–each vehicle receives an official “Bugatti Certified” seal, ready for its next customer.

Mazda Claims New Gasoline Engine Is Cleaner Than Electric Cars
Electric cars are seen as one solution to our dependence on the finite resource that is oil. They are also seen as a way of cutting pollution caused by carbon dioxide emissions, but they shift where the emissions occur rather than removing them.
Just because electric cars don’t pump out CO2 as they travel, they do still have a carbon footprint created when the electric power they run on is produced. Those emissions may be lower than existing gas-guzzling engines, but Japanese car manufacturer Mazda claims it has created an engine that’s cleaner than electric cars. One that produces less CO2.
The engine in question is called the SkyActiv-G Generation 2–a direct-injection gasoline engine that has a compression ratio of 18:1. The Generation 1 version achieved 14:1. Mazda says it is going to be 30 percent more fuel efficient, and in real terms means an engine producing 80 grams of CO2 per kilometer. The planned Generation 3 version of the engine is aiming to push that figure down even further, to just 50 grams when it arrives (probably after the end of this decade).
